Domestic Football Returns as Bayern, Dortmund Lock Horns in Der Klassiker

Domestic club football returns after the first international break of the 2023 calendar year. Marseille will look to keep up the Ligue 1 title fight when they host Montpellier on Friday. They have been tipped to beat their visiting opponents by bookmakers and fans alike. In England, league leaders Arsenal and their neighbours Chelsea are expected to beat Leeds and Aston Villa, respectively, while Man City and Liverpool are set for an entertaining and suspense-filled encounter when they battle it out at the Etihad. A draw or a Manchester City win are the two most likely outcomes of the game, as Man City have the home advantage, and Liverpool are not likely to do a double on the sky blues, having won the first leg 1-0 courtesy of a Mohammed Salah strike. Manchester United are expected to win or draw when they visit Newcastle in a game that should produce two goals at the very least.

Over in Spain, Spanish champions Real Madrid and league leaders Barcelona are expected to routinely pick all 3 points against Real Valladolid and Elche, respectively. Bundesliga table toppers Borrusia Dortmund will visit Bayern Munich in the second Der Klassiker in a game that will have a major impact on the German title race as BVB hope to win their first league title in over a decade. The Der Klassiker will likely be Tuchel’s first game in charge of the Bavarians. Italian Serie A winners Napoli have been tipped to win or draw when they welcome AC Milan to the Stadio Diego Maradona on Sunday.
