My Idea of Good Music – Singer, Indomix
There is never a generally satisfactory answer to what is considered good music. Good music means different things to different people. For Nigerian songwriter and singer, who also doubles as a sound engineer, Iloyi Oluwole Adebayo, better known as Indomix, good music is simply any kind of music that opens up the brain.
“My idea of good music is any music that opens your brain and helps you think clearly. When music is good it gets your brain in a way that the brain sends signals and impulses to all the sensory organs of the body. God music hits from the brain down to the body and also opens up the soul,” he explains.
Indomix, however, noted that there are several elements that make up good music in a practical sense, stating that the key elements are the content, melodies, good vocals, delivery and many more.
Explaining further, Indomix added, “If you ask someone to explain what music is, it’s actually quite hard to describe. There are so many things that make up a piece of music, from the notes played to how it’s orchestrated.
“But despite the complexities of music, there are some basic elements that all compositions have in common. Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced musician, understanding these basics can help you better appreciate and create music.
“The first and arguably the most important element of music is rhythm. To define it as simply as possible, rhythm is the word we use to describe when a sound should be played and how long it should last. It’s the basic building block of all music.
“Rhythm is what makes you want to tap your foot or dance along to a piece of music. It’s the underlying pulse that drives a song forward. All music, no matter what style, has some kind of rhythm.
The easiest way to understand rhythm is to think about a heartbeat. The heart pumps blood through the body in a steady rhythm. It’s not a coincidence that we describe music as having a pulse the same way that we do with someone’s heartbeat.”
Indomix has come a long way in the Nigerian music industry. He has released many singles and albums. His long journey has seen him worked with notable artists like Sound Sultan (featuring Wyclef), Faze, D’banj, Tuface, Ycee, Olamide, Reminisce, Soft, to mention just a few of them
The musician cum singer has trained and worked with many big music producers in the industry in his capacity as a sound engineer. As a music artist, he looks forward to a collaboration with Davido.
“I can work with any good producer and as for artists, I look forward to a collaboration with Davido because I like his music and his personality,” he averred.
