STAR ACTOR JIDEKENE JOINS THE HEADLINE ACTS FOR CAMIFF 2023
Renowned Nigerian actor Jide Kene Achufusi, famously known for his exceptional performance as Nnamdi Okeke in the highly acclaimed film Living in Bondage: Breaking Free, has been announced to be on the panel for the esteemed Cameroun International Film Festival (CAMIFF) 2023 edition, which is set to take place in the scenic city of Buea, Cameroon.
The highly anticipated film festival, presided over by Mr. Gilbert Agbor, who is also the Chairperson of Cameroun’s board for the Acamedy Awards, has announced the line-up of high-profile celebrity panelists, sessions and slate of films showing for this year’s edition.
Jidekene joins a prestigious list of Nigerian celebrities who have been invited to headline the event. Notable names that has graced the festival in the past include Ramsey Nouah, Zack Orji, IK Ogbonna, and Nollywood’s top international act; Enyinna Nwigwe.
Jide Kene Achufusi has expressed his appreciation for the Cameroonian film industry in previous interviews, even having worked with Candy Laurice Tea on the highly anticipated “Black MARIAH”.
Mr. Gilbert spoke highly of Jidekene, stating, “He speaks highly of our industry and is excited to collaborate with most of the filmmakers here. We welcome international and continental interest and investments into the Camerounian film market space. We need better support from our friends in the finance industry and other industries; like from our friends in tech, private sectors and government parastals.
There is a growing trend of inter-collaboration between sister African film industries, and Jide stressed that building relationships among African countries is the only way to compete at the highest levels. He emphasized the need for countries like Guinea, Ivory Coast, Ghana, Kenya, Uganda, and Morocco to combine resources, share talent, and craft together to put forward their best foot in terms of viewership and recognition, highlighting the sheer size of the USA as a rival industry/country.
In conclusion, it is hoped that this collaboration between the Nigerian and Cameroonian film industries will pave the way for more fruitful partnerships amongst the other African film industries, leading to even more incredible works of art and storytelling for the world to enjoy.
CAMIFF is slated to take place from the 24th to 28th of April. We can’t wait to see the beautiful scenes and winners from this edition.
