A’ Ibom Election Tribunal Receives 22 Petitions on Governorship, State Assembly Elections

The 2023 Governorship and State House of Assembly Election Petitions Tribunal sitting in Akwa Ibom State has so far received 22 petitions from aggrieved political parties that participated in the elections in the state.

A breakdown of the figure showed that  the governorship petitions were eight while 14 petitions were received by the tribunal on the State House Assembly election.

Political parties that filed the governorship  petitions include the Young Progressive Party (YPP), the All Progressives Congress (APC), the Accord Party (AP), the Allied People’s Movement (APM)

Others were the Action People’s Party (APP), Action Alliance Party (AA); the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) and the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

APC, YPP, AA and the PDP were among political parties that filed the State House of Assembly petitions before the Election Tribunal in the state.

The Respondents in the governorship petitions are the Independent National Electoral Commissíon (INEC), the PDP, and the governor-Elect, Pastor Umo Eno.

 A source at the Tribunal disclosed that the Respondents in the governorship petition have been duly served by the political parties.

The 2023 National and Governorship Election Petition Tribunal had earlier disclosed that it received a total of 15 petitions from aggrieved parties in the State namely the APC, YPP, NNPP, Labour Party and APM.

The Tribunal had hinted that out of the 15 petitions it received 11  came from the House of Representatives and four petitions from the Senate.
