Norwich Striker Left Out of Flying Eagles  Squad to Argentina

Norwich City striker Kenny Coker has been left out of the Flying Eagles traveling squad to Argentina for the 2023 FIFA U20 World Cup.

It means no player on the books of an English club will be representing Nigeria during the tournament in South America unlike the 2019 edition of the FIFA U20 World Cup in Poland, where Paul Aigbogun selected Manchester City’s Tom Dele-Bashiru, Bournemouth’s Nnamdi Ofoborh and Brook House’s Chinonso Emeka in his final squad. Nigeria U20 boss Ladan Bosso has decided not to select Arsenal winger Joel Ideho due to a combination of fitness issues and his late arrival to the training camp in Abuja.

The 19-year-old Coker, who also trained with the Flying Eagles ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations, has been dropped because he sits behind in Bosso’s pecking order of center forwards.

Bosso has selected five foreign-based professionals in his final 21-man squad for the 2023 FIFA U20 World Cup.

Tickets have already been booked and the team will fly out to Argentina via Turkish Airlines today.

Nigeria will play their first two group games against the Dominican Republic and Italy in Mendoza on May 21 and May 24 respectively, before facing Brazil in La Plata on May 27.
