IBB International Golf and Country Club’s Roll of Honour donor, Mr Cecil Ezem Osakwe, has donated a magnificent structure for the caddies at IBB International Golf and Country, Abuja

The befitting structure, which was a transformation of the original caddy hut built in 1991, was handed over to the club captain, Dr Banjo Obaleye and the Board of Trustees led by General I.B.M. Haruna (rtd)

The expansive structure that straddles Hole One and Hole Two is tiled and has the imprint of construction giant, Julius Berger, that built the golf course in 1991.

Harvard trained lawyer, Osakwe, said he was motivated to execute the project for the benefit of the caddies who are considered the lower-rung people in golf the community.

“The caddies are usually the lower level of golfers but they are ones who make it happen, help us carry our golf bags. So, when I was given this project, the fact that it is going for people at this level was my strong motivation,” Osakwe said.

He allayed worries about the maintenance of the edifice assuring that the quality of the work will make it difficult for it to be damaged.

Gen. Haruna lauded the Osakwes for exhibiting love for the lower level people in the society who though constitute the majority but are often forgotten.

“The caddies are the ones who carry our bags and clubs, and are aware of the challenges and obstacles of the golf course being played, along with the best strategy in playing it. So, I thank the past captain and Osakwe for thinking toward the comfort of the lower level in our means and building this for them,” Haruna said.

Obaleye and other past captains, Joe Kyari-Gadzama, Debo Olateju, Oludare Bello and Senator Emmanuel Anosike, during whose tenure the project was initiated, also thanked Osakwe and his wife for the honour done to the club.

“When you see a man of quality you see his hand work. When he made up his mind to do this, he went to Julius Berger to construct this. You can see the roof and floor well laid. Thank you Mr and Mrs Osakwe, Obaleye said.
