The Plateau State Internal Revenue Service (PSIRS) has declared that it is targeting to rake in N26 billion as Internally Generated Revenue for the 2023 fiscal year even though it has been able to generate N7 billion from January to March.
Disclosing this while addressing the press in Jos, the Chairman of PSIRS, Mr. Arlat Dashe said, “Over the years, the agency had strived hard towards achieving a robust means of revenue generation in the state. In as much as Plateau state is not doing badly in terms of revenue performance in the North Central and in the country at large, and even though we are not yet there we will ensure we push hard to get there.
“In 2021, the agency was able to generate a total sum of N20 billion as its revenue for the year, while in 2022, a total of N16 billion was generated as revenue with a drop of over N4 billion. This resulted from non-compliance from taxpayers when it comes to tax payments. He encouraged all business owners in the state to be sincere with information regarding their businesses to the agency.”
Arlat added that the agency has put some strategies in place for the year 2023 to help it in achieving its goals for the year including; the development of a Standard Strategy Goal that will put the staff of the agency in a higher place, improve the method of task payer Services and Revenue Collection, establishment of compliance directorate service to ensure that task payers comply by the law and rules of the agency, internal control mechanism.
He said that all the goals will be achieved if task payers and staff are motivated through; re-engineering all the business processes in business.
