Osagie Zogie-Odigie: From Software Development to Building One of Nigeria’s Finest Stock Investment Platforms, Yochaa

Given Nigeria’s current economic state burdened by high inflationary pressures, a volatile foreign exchange regime, amongst others, there is no gainsaying the fact that proper financial planning and investment in high-yielding securities is a necessity for wealth creation. This is the solution mobile application developer, Osagie Zogie-Odigie had sought to provide to Nigerians when he founded Yochaa in 2015.

With a first degree in Electrical/Electronics Engineering from the University of Benin, Nigeria and an MSc (Distinction) in Embedded Systems Engineering from Heriot-Watt University, Scotland, Osagie was poised to play in the fast-paced world of Information Technology.

He has 18 years experience in software, design and development and has spent the last 10 years developing financial mobile applications for investment banks. He has also published his own applications and helped more than five companies successfully design, develop and launch their mobile applications – usually for the first time. He has worked in notable organizations including Schlumberger Oilfield Services, Motorola, UBS, amongst others.

In 2015, he founded Yochaa to provide stock market information to Nigerians who wanted to trade Nigerian stocks. While it started off as a mobile-based application that provided comprehensive access to data on the Nigerian stock market, showing real-time price movements, dividends, market capitalization, performance history, and more to enable its users make effective stock market decisions, it has today evolved into a fully functional platform for trading.

Following multiple iterations, the platform allows its users analyse stocks with 10 years performance history, and trade both US and Nigerian stocks, opening their brokerage accounts in less than 10 mins. Users can also monitor and track their investment portfolio for equities held on Yochaa as well as other trading applications.

In addition, the platform has an in-built social platform known as Yochaa Lounge where investors can interact with other investors, analysts, and like-minded individuals, giving them an opportunity to access relevant information and be part of a community of other investors.

With user experience and elegance at the heart of its creation, Osagie is confident that Yochaa will birth the next generation of Nigerian investors who are ‘cool’ but also focused on building long-lasting sustainable wealth in the years to come.
