Kogi Assembly Holds Induction Course for Members-elect

Ahead of the proclamation of eighth legislative House, Kogi State House of Assembly has held an induction course for the 25 newly elected members of the Assembly.

The one-day induction course  was held at the Chambers of the state House of Assembly yesterday.

While speaking at the event, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Legislative Matters, Hon Haruna Musa Idoko, advised the inductees to ensure peace and unity in the cause of their legislative duties despite that all of them are not of the same party.

He admonished the members-elect to toe party lines during voting for the leadership of the Assembly, adding that doing otherwise would rock the boat of the state and would not be of benefit to them.

The Special Adviser noted that legislative business is not learnt elsewhere but on the job, stressing the need to be friendly with the legislative staff members who will be assisting them on the job.

While speaking on Legislative Aides and Assistants, the Chairman of Assembly Service Commission, Mr. Andas Abdulmalik Momohjimoh, stressed the need for lawmakers to be well acquainted with their prospective aides.

According to him, prospective aides who will later be their image makers should be capable of representing them anywhere.

The legislative guru also stressed that would-be legislative aides should be academically sound so as to be able to conduct research and get data for the use of the lawmakers to benefit their constituencies.

Andas also congratulated the elected members whom he commended for attending the training with rapt attention, “which indicated their high level of seriousness and a hope of a robust eighth House of Assembly.”

Earlier, in his lecture titled: ‘Principles and practice of emotional intelligence for leaders’, retired Deputy Clerk, Administration, and General Services, Martins  Enimola, reiterated the need for lawmakers to manage their emotion while making decisions, adding that lawmakers should identify themselves and the plights of their colleagues for efficient performances.

Also in a lecture titled: ‘Financial Guide to Budgeting’, by a consultant from Ultimate Consultants, Lawal Lamidi, restated the need for lawmakers to prioritise their needs and embark on productive ventures.
