A United Nigeria Airlines (UNA) aircraft skidded off the runway 18L, known as domestic runway, at the Murtala Mohammed Airport 2 in Lagos.
According to statement from the airline, signed by its Head, Corporate Communications, Achilleus-Chud Uchegbu, the aircraft with registration number, 5N-BWW with 50 passengers on board, was flying in from Abakaliki, Ebonyi state, when the incident happened.
The aircraft landed safely but was forced to terminate its movement to the apron off the runway, the statement explained.
“All passengers disembarked safely and were transported to the arrival hall alongside their luggage,” the airline said.
It also disclosed that officials of the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) went to the scene of the incident and alongside UNA engineers are working to move the aircraft to the hanger.
According to the airline, the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) and Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) have also been duly notified and were on the scene, as the airline said it was collaborating fully with the authorities.
“United Nigeria wants to reassure the public that it maintains strictest safety standards in its operations and shall continue to prioritize passenger safety at all times,” the statement added.
