Operatives of the Ondo State Command of  the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have arrested 24 suspects involved in the act of selling and using different psychotropic substances such as Indian hemp, cocaine, tramadol among others in the state.

Parading the suspects yesterday at the command headquarters in Akure, the state capital, the state Commander of the agency, Mr. Kayode Raji, said that the suspects were arrested during dislodgement and raid of black spots in the state.

Raji, who noted that out of the 24 arrested, one of them was a female, stressed that the raid was an order from the headquarters, which was part of this agency’s aggressive measures to rid the state of drug abuse.

“As usual, because of the menace constituted by the users of hard drugs, we normally go on raids and dislodgement of black spots within the state. But this is a special one, before the inauguration of our president, we got a marching order from our headquarters tasking us to clean the whole state of black spots and other criminality related to hard drugs before the inauguration, so that we have a peaceful transition programme.

“And of course, we went round the state, we went to black spots, joints and these the ones were apprehended. We went to so many places and hideouts and about 24 were arrested and a female was among them,” he said.

Raji, however, advised parents to ensure that they properly monitor their wards, saying “some of those arrested are sons of those that are well to do.” He warned those involved in the usage of hard drugs to desist or leave the state.

Also speaking, Deputy Zonal Commander, Zone J, Mr. Andrew Idele, said the operation was a success and commended men of the command.
