The Nasarawa State Police Command yesterday presented cheques worth N61.022 million to families of deceased police officers and officers who sustained injuries in the course of discharging their duties.

In a release by the Police Public Relations Officer of the command, DSP Ramhan Nansel, the Nasarawa State Police Commissioner, Maiyaki Baba, presented the cheques on behalf of the Inspector General of Police, Usman Baba.

Presenting the cheques, CP Baba said the gesture was an initiative of the IGP Family Welfare Scheme, Group Personal Accident and Group Life Assurance aimed at improving the living standard of the families of police operatives that lost their lives in the line of duty.

He added that the initiative was also meant for police personnel who sustained varying degrees of injuries in the course of discharging their duties.

The CP sympathised with the beneficiaries and appreciated the IGP for his love, service to humanity and his contribution to support the families of officers who died in active service.

“The initiative is also for officers who sustained injury as a result of accident or any inherent hazard of police job that was experienced in the course of discharging their duty,” CP Baba explained further.

He, therefore, urged the beneficiaries to use the token judiciously to cater for the families left behind and for the betterment of their health.
