Again, FG, Labour Meet Over Fuel Subsidy

A meeting of the federal government team, the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) is due to hold Sunday (today) at the State House, Abuja.

The meeting, the second in five days, is to address the issue of the petroleum subsidy withdrawn by the federal government shortly after the inauguration of President Bola Tinubu on May 29.

The meeting, billed for 4pm at the Conference Hall of the Chief of Staff’s office, is expected to look again into the controversial subsidy removal which failed to reach any consensus at the last meeting.

The NLC had Friday threatened to embark on a nationwide strike from Wednesday if government fails to revert to the old pump price of petrol.

The federal government delegation at the last meeting included Dele Alake, the spokesperson for the government’s delegation; the Group CEO of the NNPCL Mele Kyari; Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele; and former Edo State Governor, Adams Oshiomhole.

The Labour side was led by NLC President, Joe Ajaero, and his TUC counterpart.
