“Causes of low sperm count could occur due to abnormal sperm shape, motility or function, health issues including Varicocele, infections such as painful inflammation of the epididymis (epididymitis) or testes (Orchitis) and some sexually transmitted diseases such as HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus) or gonorrhoea,” Adefemione continued.

Also, he listed certain medications (such as testosterone replacement medications, long-term anabolic steroid use, cancer medications, certain antibiotics and antifungals, some ulcer medications, etc.

The CEO outlined, “Exposure to industrial chemicals such as toluene, benzenes, herbicides, lead, xylenes, painting materials, pesticides and organic solvents.

“Exposure to radiation, sitting for long periods, drugs such as anabolic steroids, cocaine or marijuana), alcohol addiction, smoking, emotional stress, depression and anxiety, and obesity or overweight.”

He said although some low sperm count problems are permanent, they can usually be treated. Adding that, “However, the treatment method usually depends on the cause of the low sperm count. Sometimes, your healthcare provider may advise you to stop taking some medications. Treatment may sometimes require surgery.”
