Gov Oborevwori Throws Weight Behind Female Super Six Teams in Asaba
Delta State government has assured that this year’s Female Super Six contest in Asaba will be the best ever.
The Super Six competition is expected to start on Tuesday June 6th to 11th at the Stephen Keshi stadium in Asaba and the new was against the earlier fixed date of June 9th to 18th.
All the participating teams are expected to arrive Asaba from tomorrow Monday, June 5.
The Nigeria Women Female League (NWFL), stated that the change in date was to enable Nigeria meet the exigencies of the June 12 deadline set by CAF for the submission of names of champions in each country for the WAFU zone B play offs ahead the continental champions league.
The sudden change in date notwithstanding, the Chairman of Delta Sports Commission, Tonobok Okowa, noted yesterday that state would give the competition the best treatment.
“This is the first competition Delta State is hosting under the tenure of our new Governor, His Excellency Sherrif Oborevwori.
“He is a great sports lover and as Speaker of Delta House of Assembly, he demonstrated his passion for sports by giving support to all sporting activities we organised under the administration of former Governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa. “Governor Oborevwori is excited about the hosting of the female Super Six, and I am sure he will be on ground to cheer the teams.
“We will give all the participating teams, their supporters and football fans from across the country a great treatment that Asaba is known for, we did it before and we will do it again,” Okowa stated.
The participating teams are; defending champions Bayelsa Queens, Edo Queens, FC Robbo, Confluence Queens, Rivers Angels and host, Delta Queens.
Delta Queens FC gave the state its first major trophy in 2003, when it won that year’s Female Super Six contest in Umuahia, Abia State.
