Insight Sports Limited Unveils SwimLagos Academy
Insight Sports Limited broke new grounds at the weekend when it organised the formal launch of the SwimLagos Academy at the Swim Fit Aquatic along the Ahmadu Bello Way, Victoria Island Lagos.
Scores of swimming enthusiasts and kid swimmers, mostly students and pupils from different schools defied the early morning heavy downpour to attend the event.
The event featured more practical than speeches as the team of instructors led by former multiple medallists and national champion, Okpuakpo Forcados dished out instructions and engaged the kid swimmers on various aspects of the sport, especially the techniques.
Initiator and Chief Executive Officer of Insight Sports Limited Idowu Otukoya stated the mission of LagosSwim Academy, “Our mission at SwimLagos Academy is to provide the highest quality swim instruction and coaching to individuals of all ages and skill levels. We aim to create a safe and supportive environment that encourages swimmers to achieve their goals and develop a lifelong love for swimming.”
More than that, Otukoya added that at the SwimLagos Academy, “we strive to provide a comprehensive swim programme that meets the needs of swimmers at all levels and our experienced coaches and instructors are dedicated to helping swimmers achieve their goals and develop a lifelong love for swimming.”
The Executive Chairman, Lagos State Sports Commission, Sola Aiyepeku praised the founder of the SwimLagos Academy urging Lagos residents to embrace the ideals of the academy as they aligned with government’s thinking towards evolving a swimming culture among the people. “We are in a state where over 70 per cent is water. We need initiatives like this that can make more Lagosian embrace swimming.”
Twelve-year-old Olanna Onyejianya, a 7th year student of Meadow Hall School was one of the kids who attended the launch and training sessions. She spoke of their experiences. “I believe this will afford us the opportunity to learn new tricks and techniques and prepare us for competitions.”
Todun Ibidapo, 15 of Edgewood College who also spoke called on government to show more support for sports, especially swimming. “The facilities need upgrading and make the facilities to be accessible to young swimmers,” she said.
