Monarch Tasks FG to Tackle Insecurity in Kwara Community

A traditional ruler in Kwara state, Asolo of Isolo-Opin in Ekiti Local Government Council Area of the state, Oba Sunday Are Raphael has called on the federal government to come to the aid of the town in view of the incessant kidnapping, banditry and armed robbery in the town and other communities linking Kogi and Ekiti states.
Speaking in Isolo-Opin during the official inauguration and presentation of ultra modern office complex and operational vehicle donated by the people of the town to the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps(NSCDC) yesterday , the monarch said that the ugly development had continued to have adverse effect on the socio-economic development of the area.
He said that the community embarked on the project, “for the sake of our people, especially the farmers who are no longer secured to go to their farms.”
The traditional ruler, who said he took cursory look at the security architecture of the nation in recent past, characterized by banditry, kidnapping and other security vices, with particular reference to the Ekiti local government area, which borders Kogi and Ekiti States respectively, added that the people are very vulnerable of these attacks which he said had not abated till moment.
“In view of above and many other plausible reasons of benefit, the community has/still enjoying from the government of the day, my good people of Isolo-Opin home and abroad had the same feelings to reciprocate the governments gesture by coming up with this project to partner and support the government in combating insecurity in the state with particular reference to the local government area as a whole and by extension our neighbouring local government and states”.
Oba Raphael also said that the projects were done without any financial assistance from government but by efforts of sons and daughters of the community. He appealed to the government to assist Isolo-Opin community.
Also speaking, the National President of the Isolo-Opin Development Association, Mr. Joseph Kumuyi said that the community embarked on the capital project because of security of people in the Ekiti Local Government Area.
He added that it aimed to complement good jobs of vigilance group and others in the community, “most especially the quick intervention and rescue operations of our community people being kidnapped on regular basis.”
He called on the corps to provide additional personnel and arms to the divisional headquarters to complement efforts of the vigilance group.
“As the project is about to be handed over to the government today, the community strongly and personally appeal to you to remember our children in the area of recruitment as that is one of the ways our community can reap the fruit of its labour.”
Also speaking, the state commandant of the NSCDC, Tukur Ibrahim Mohammed, commended the self help and support of the community, saying that the structure was built up to the standard.
The corps commandant, who said the projects would go a long way to motivate men of the service, promised recruitment of additional personnel to the division as soon as current recruitment exercise is completed.
“Self help would bring meaningful development. Our officers would not let you down in bringing activities of bandits to lowest level. I hereby canvass intelligent information from the community to tackle vices appropriately”, he said.
