Y’akoto Drops New Single “WMYT”
As a follow-up to her single “Secret,” Ghanaian singer Y’akoto unveiled her latest single, titled “WMYT,” on June 7. An acronym for “What made you think,” the new release is her second single of the year and one of the many songs she created in a recording session in Los Angeles.
Y’akoto showcases her artistry in “WMYT,” where she deftly combines R&B with elements of electropop and alternative R&B. The “Nabeyin” tag appears at the beginning of the song, indicating that Grammy-nominated Nabeyin produced it. This is the second time the vocal goddess has worked with the American producer, the first being her previously released “Secret.”
“WMYT” is the second installment of Y’akoto’s toxic love-themed song and sees the singer share her experience with toxic relationships. It also serves as an empowerment song for people in comparable circumstances to muster courage and end the relationship. “I am not a star; I’m the galaxy,” Y’akoto declares with confidence in her lyrics, aiming to uplift her listeners.
In addition to the album, Y’akoto debuted a visually stunning music video produced in Accra under the direction of Gene Adu. Y’akoto also showcases her dancing abilities in the video with the assistance of two backup dancers. The video also captures Y’akoto’s stunning outfits, which reflect her unique style and personality.
Overall, “WMYT” represents Y’akoto’s artistic growth and versatility while tackling significant issues of empowerment and self-worth. Fans of Y’akoto and listeners who enjoy a blend of R&B and alternative sounds can look forward to experiencing her latest single and its accompanying music video.
