Bayelsa Guber Poll: Youths Adopt Diri as Sole Candidate

Thousands of youths and other stakeholders from the four constituencies in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area (SILGA) of Bayelsa State, have adopted the state’s governor and candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Douye Diri, as their sole candidate for the November 11 governorship poll, citing performance and deployment of infrastructural projects to their area.

The youths also set up a security and intelligence gathering units ahead of the election in the state and pledged to work with security agencies to check-mate those in the habit of throwing up fake figures in order to rig the electoral processes.

The stakeholders, who are made up of youths, community leaders, women groups, traditional, religious leaders and other critical segments of the people of Southern Ijaw extraction of the state, urged security and intelligence agencies to take special interest in the local government where some known political elements specialised in manufacturing delusionary votes to satisfy their inordinate desires.

The stakeholders made this known yesterday in Yenagoa in a communique that was issued and signed by their Chairman, Mr. Kei Job, and Secretary, Mr. Juliu Kuradeidei, at the end of the one-day national conference of critical stakeholders, youth leaders, community-based organisations, religious and natural leaders that was held at Angiama Town Hall in Southern Ijaw.

The communique stated that over two thousand youths that attended the national conference resolved to work with security agencies and the police in every unit to ensure that the right thing is done.

The statement added “that the youths and people of the local government area have resolved to police every unit to ensure that the right thing is done.”

The gathering of Southern Ijaw’s youths also reviewed the developmental strides of the present administration in their constituencies and unanimously, endorsed Governor Douye Diri for second term.

They also promised to deliver 100 per cent of the votes in all the polling units across the local government area of the state, to enable the “prosperity governor” to continue his good works of human capital and infrastructural development in the local government area.”
