A political support group, Ondo State Youth and Women in Politics, under the auspices of Coalition of Ondo State Youth and Women Leaders Assembly (COSYAWALA), has advocated for the emergence of a healthy and youthful governor in the 2024 governorship election in the state.

The Chairman of COSYAWALA, Mrs. Basiru Bimbo, who stated this at the weekend at a press conference in Akure, the state capital, said the group was ready to mobilise millions of voters across all the local government areas in the state to secure victory for a youthful candidate irrespective of his or her political party.

According to her, “We the members of the Coalition of Ondo State Youth Leader and Women Leaders (COSYAWLA) from all the 203 wards in Ondo State in conjunction with other interest groups have resolved to deliver all the 18 local government areas in the state for a vibrant youth who is eminently qualified and capable to tackle unemployment, insecurity, and economic crisis, and who can build more on the legacies of the present and past administrations in the state.”

Bimbo also called on President Bola Tinubu to consider the idea of fulfilling his promise of youth inclusiveness in governance by supporting youthful candidacy in the governorship election in the state.

She said: “The destiny of Ondo State under the Tinubu-led administration can only achieve its viable potential if handled by a prudent, purposeful, transparent, dynamic and reformist youth. The positive contributions and impacts of the youths to nation building cannot be over-emphasised because youths are key to national development and growth, agents of change, progress and sustainable peace.”

According to her, if the electorate elects a youthful person as the next governor in 2024, he or she would have the capacity to bridge the gap of leadership deficit and place Ondo State in the right development trajectory.

“The 2024 governorship election in Ondo State should be exploited by the youths, professional bodies, market women, labour unions, trade unions, Ebira and Hausa communities in the state, as well as other non-indigenous groups and all the good people of Ondo State by ensuring that they elect a youthful candidate with prerequisite knowledge, skills, and dynamism of solving the 21st-century challenges.

“We are hereby calling on all the youths and the good people of Ondo State to

rise and take the bull by the horn by coming out to support one of us to take up the leadership position because it is imperative that we join hands together to put an end to a situation whereby we are nothing but used-and-dumped instruments in the hands of politicians.

“We need accelerated economic development towards sustainable livelihood for the youths, women, and the people of Ondo State. No longer should any youth and women in Ondo State beg for bread because we are 100 percent determined to support a youthful candidate who has genuine plans to revive the moribund industries in the state,” the group added.
