Breaking: Akpabio Elected Senate President

Sunday Aborisade in Abuja

Amidst tight security, Senator representing Akwa Ibom North East Senatorial District has been declared winner of the 10th Senate Presidency.

He defeated his only rival,. Abdulaziz Yari who is representing Zamfara West Senatorial District in the red chamber.

Godswill Akpabio who polled 63 votes was declared winner of the election by the Clerk to the National Assembly, Sani Magaji Tambawal at 9:35 am.

All the 109 senators voted. Yari, his only challenger, got 45 votes. One senator abstained.

Many state governors who were in the chamber stood from their seats to congratulate the new Senate President
