The Kwara State Governor and Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF), Mr. AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, has said that the best way to honour the heroes of democracy and sustain the gains of the era is to recommit to the ideals of democracy and to join every effort to build a stronger country through patriotism and collective responsibility.
The governor in a statement that was issued in Ilorin yesterday by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Rafiu Ajakaye, to mark the celebration of the 30th anniversary of the June 12, 1993, described the celebration as a watershed event that birthed the current democratic dispensation.
AbdulRazaq also urged Nigerians to rally behind President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s renewed hope agenda to strengthen democracy and consolidate on the gains of the past years in the area of collective security, infrastructural development, and public welfare.
He said: “It is my belief that our country is making appreciably steady progress in our democratic journey and the unending task of nation building.
“With all of us playing our complementary roles, I have no doubt that the future holds so much promises for Nigeria as the leader of the black community.”
Also, a former Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, has urged Nigerians to continue to uphold their commitment in building a Nigeria where liberty, justice, and the true spirit of democracy will flourish.
Saraki said in a statement he issued in Ilorin yesterday to mark the celebration of the 30th anniversary of the June 12 presidential election, that “as we commemorate Democracy Day, let us remember the essence of the system that we have chosen in conducting the governance of our country.
“It may not always be perfect, it may not always go our way — but the beauty of democracy is that every idea and aspiration can live to represent itself another day.
“Let’s continue to embrace not only the triumphs but also the trials of our democratic journey, as they strengthen our resolve and dedication to the development of our dear nation.
“We must uphold our commitment to building a Nigeria where liberty, justice, and the true spirit of democracy will flourish.”
