Former Commissioner  Elected Speaker of Niger’s 10th Assembly


•Assembly gets first female deputy speaker

A former Commissioner for Local Government and Community Development,  Abdulmalik Sarkindaji, has emerged the new speaker of the 10th Niger State House of Assembly.

This is just as the legislature also got its first female Deputy Speaker, Mrs Afiniki Dauda, who is also the only female member of the House.

In his inaugural speech, the speaker expressed gratitude to his colleagues for electing him and promised to give the house purposeful leadership.

Similarly, Sarkindaji commended the State Governor, Mohammed Bago, for not interfering in the electoral process that brought him and other leaders of the House to power.

Sarkindaji pledged to work closely with the executive to bring rapid development to all parts of the state.

 Bago, represented by his Deputy, Yakubu Garba, congratulated the legislators on their election and inauguration, promising to collaborate with them for the smooth running of the state

He reminded the lawmakers,  25 of which are newly-elected lawmakers, that the expectations of the people from them  were high and therefore asked for passage of  quality bills and motions.
