The Bayelsa State Chairman of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Dennis Otiotio, and other stakeholders in the Niger Delta have hailed the emergence of the former Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Senator Godswill Akpabio, as the  President of the 10th Senate.

Otiotio said they believe that the former governor will bring to bear the uncommon transformation  in Akwa Ibom State and his wealth of experience to help in the rapid development of the Niger Delta

While congratulating Apabio on his emergence as the president of the Senate of the Federal Republic, he said he pray and hope that the new Senators listen to advice of the party and president.

He said: “We believe he is going to bring his wealth of experience to bear in ensuring that they work cooperatively with the executive arm of government to bring democracy to the people of Nigeria.

“Particularly, this is the first time the South-south is having the Senate President. We believe Godswill Apabio, as a leader, will use his position to attract development to the South-south region.”

“We pray God give him the wisdom and knowledge to pilot the affairs of the senate and National Assembly

Also speaking, National President, Niger Delta Non Violence Agitator Forum (NDNAF), Comrade Wilson Ikuli,  said the emergence of Akpabio is a positive omen.

He said the former governor’s worthy footprint and legacies in Akwa Ibom State until this very moment remain unmatched and unequalled.

“He is a leader that believe so much in team work. He is also a true nationalist which is the reason he has built political bridge across the country.

“He does not subscribe to parochial and primordial sentiments that characterize some Leaders that do not think or see beyond tribal and religious sentiments.

“So, his election is a further confirmation of his general acceptance in the polity. Again, his emergence has put a balance to the political equation in the country. The people of the geographic Niger Delta (South-south) are indeed grateful to members of the 10th Senate and to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for finding him worthy for this national assignment.

Also reacting, Comrade Newuwumi Omolubi, said it was a good development and a plus for the people of Niger Delta, being it the first time a South Southern is occupying the position.

While congratulating the former Akwa Ibom State governor, Omolubi said he hope and believe that he will bring his experience in governance to the Senate and address all the myriad of underdevelopment, exploitation and deprivation in the region who has been laying the golden eggs.

Omolubi, a Warri chief, said Akpabio should ensure among other things, the quick completion of the dilapidated East- West road, quick intervention in the NDDC crisis, completion of the Koko-Oghere road, which was awarded since 1966, end to oil theft and others, while also ensuring that the second phase of the Amnesty program takes prominence.

He said the second phase of the Amnesty which is the infrastructural development of the region is yet to begin years after the promises was made.

Leader of the First Phase Ex-Agitiators Forum, ‘Gen. Charles Kurobo, said:  “My feeling about is that Godswill Akpabio is deem fit to do the job of Senate President because he is one of the best leaders in terms of development in the Niger Delta.

He said on behalf of  the Niger Delta  critical holders and political leaders, they  unanimously give him their support to ensure  he makes positive difference in President Ahmed Tinubu administration.

He said: “When people like Godswill Akpabio is with the president, I think this country will be stabilized and the choice of making him (Akpabio) the President is the best choice so far which means that Tinubu mean well for the region.”

“The best is what we want from the Niger delta People in terms of human empowerment, infrastructural development and social amenities with human capacity building.”
