The Director General of Kogi State Special Task Force on Illegal Smuggling of Fire Arms and Other Related Crimes, Mr. Friday Sani Makama, has debunked the rumour making the rounds that he has been arrested by the Department of State Service, (DSS).
Makama explained that the social media, including some mainstream media, were awash with the news that he was arrested on an alleged involvement in the assassination attempt on the Social Democratic Party’s Governorship Candidate in Kogi State, Mr. Muri Ajaka.
Addressing journalists yesterday, Makama said that the news of his arrest was the hand work of mischief makers who wanted to destroy his reputation.
He declared that he is currently receiving training with the DSS that would equip him to discharge the mandate given to him to stop illegal smuggling of fire arms into the state.
Makama explained that since his appointment as the director general of Special Task force on Illegal Smuggling of Fire Arms and Other Related Crimes, he has been receiving several threat calls and messages from criminal conspirators within and outside the state.
He warned that anyone behind the importation of fire arms into Kogi State would be brought to book no matter how highly connected in the country.
He said: “The rumors of my arrest does not come to me as a surprise. The DSS has a supervisory role both in the national and the state of the federation on illegal smuggling of fire arms. The DSS has a lot of role in training and equipping me with the knowledge to be able to carry out this responsibility without bias.
“The nitty-gritty of the training is what I cannot disclose to the public. But be rest assured that at the end of the training, whoever that is involved in either sponsoring, or trading on illegal fire arms, the current training I am undergoing will equip me to come after you.”
