Jassi Nation: Essentially, I do Afrobeats, Dancehall

Quite a couple of musical performances preceded his album listening party on a recent Wednesday. The acts had defied the rain to give support to the afrobeats/dancehall artiste, ‘Jassi Nation’ born Omokaro Paul Joseph who happens to be one of their own. The atmosphere great, one could feel the camaraderie as they take turns to entertain the guests at X10 Lounge and Bar, located at Wilmer Crescent, Olodi Apapa. s this your first album and what’s the title?

No, this is my second. I released an album last year; an eleven-track album titled ‘Welcome to Jassi Nation’. While this new EP is titled ‘Kogbagidi’, a six track EP.

Have you got any video for any of the tracks on the EP?

No video. But I have a video of a single which I released last year.

Is there any featured artiste on this EP?

Just one artiste named Fireman (King Sango).

What record label are you signed to?

I’m not into any label. I’m an independent artiste.

How has it been like so far being an independent artiste?

It’s not been easy. And it’s not been easy even for artiste under a label not to talk of an independent artiste. But this is what we know how to do best. So, we keeping it up with everything we have whether there’s a label or not we got to keep pushing till we are lucky to have a deal with a label someday.  

What genre of music do you do?

Though I’m versatile with the kind of songs I do. But essentially, I do afrobeats and dancehall.

Where do you draw inspiration from?

Inspiration comes from God.

How long have you been doing music?

Have been doing music since childhood basically sixteen.

Who are your musical influences?

Bennie Man, Timaya and Tuface

What are we expecting next from you?

You should be expecting or looking out for the EP which will be released soon. It’s going to be on social media and major streaming platforms like Audiomack, Spotify, Youtube just name it.
