Rivers, Gombe Lawmakers May Emerge House Minority Leader, Minority Whip
There are also strong indications that Hon. Kingsley Chinda (PDP-Rivers), and Hon. Ali Isah (PDP-Gombe) may emerge as the Minority Leader, and Minority Whip of the 10th House of Representatives Assembly following their nomination at a meeting of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) caucus in Abuja on Friday.
Chinda represents the Obio/Akpor Federal Constituency of Rivers.
The emergence of Chinda followed the withdrawal of Hon. Oluwole Oke (PDP-Osun) who was his main contender from the race.
Isah also emerged as the Minority Whip of the 10th House of Representatives.
THISDAY reports that the new Minority Leader represents the immediate past governor of Rivers State, Mr. Nyesom Wike’s constituency in the House of Representatives.
Chinda was dropped by the House leadership in the ninth House of Representatives after he was nominated for the same position by the PDP and was replaced with Hon. Ndudi Elumelu, who also had the support of PDP lawmakers and lawmakers from the other minority parties in the House.
Efforts to get a confirmation from the PDP proved abortive as party officials declined to speak on the issue when contacted by THISDAY.
The party had last week said that no decision had been taken on the leadership of the minority caucus at the two chambers of the National Assembly.
