10th Senate Inauguration: Ignore ‘Fake’ Voting List, Group Urges New Senators
Sunday Aborisade in Abuja
A Pro-democracy organisation, the Concerned Citizens For Good Governance and Probity, has urged members of the newly inaugurated 10th Senate to ignore a ‘fake’ list suggesting how they voted during the election of their presiding officers last week Tuesday.
The Convener of the CCGGP, Mr. Israel Ladoku, made the appeal in a statement made available to journalists in Abuja on Sunday.
Ladoku said the ‘fake’ voting list was released by those who wanted to destabilize the newly inaugurated 10th Senate.
The list had described how each senator allegedly voted and even identified specifically, those that voted for Godswill Akpabio and Abdulaziz Yari during the Senate presidency election.
But the CCGGP in it’s statement said, “Our attention has been drawn to a fake list of how senators in the 10th Senate voted in last Tuesday’s election.
“Those behind the fake list are agents of darkness bent on putting a wedge between the Senate leadership and their colleagues
“Since the election was conducted in secret, nobody can or should lay claims to having knowledge of who voted for who or didn’t.
“The leadership of the 10th Senate is a product of the wishes of the 109 senators and that is what it is
“Members of the public should please disregard the fake list as it is intended to cause bad blood between the senators and the leadership.”
The Media Office of the Senator representing Niger East Senatorial District, Sani Musa, had earlier on Thursday, described the list as fake
The list which surfaced in the social media space explained how the senators voted and alleged that Musa cast his vote for Senator Abdulaziz Yari who contested against the party’s choice, Senator Godswill Akpabio.
But Musa’s media office in it’s statement made available to journalists in Abuja said it was aimed at blackmailing him.
Part of the statement had read, “It is very important to arrest the attention of the public on the widely circulated document containing the voting choices of Senators and the candidate they voted for.
“After carefully reviewing and scrutinizing the document, it is important that the purveyors (authors) of this fake news tell the public how 64 votes was recorded for Senator Godswill Akpabio as against the 63 votes he scored.
“They also explained how Senator Abdulaziz Yari scored 45 votes in the document as against the real votes he scored of 46.
“A review and scrutiny of the document shows clearly that the author(s) are on futile attempt of sowing the seed of discord between APC NWC, Presidency, the current President of the Senate and some Senators.
We categorically state here that the list is fake, how did the manufacturer of that list know how Senators voted?
“The motive of that list is best known to the author as he thinks according to his or her perception of thinking and we call on the general public to ignore.
“Senator Sani Musa voted in line with Mr President’s aspiration. Election has come and passed, and the 109 Senators have subscribed to unite as one Senate to work for the peace, unity and progress of the nation.
“The public needs to be extra careful with this kind of blackmail usually spread on social media and other important media platforms.”
