Blessing Ibunge in Port Harcourt
Members of the Rivers State Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) have been called upon to intensify their support in the fight against crime and criminality in the state.
The state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Nwonyi Emeka made the call when the PCRC met with him at the weekend, at the Police Officers Mess, Port Harcourt.
The state police boss also cautioned the group against fraternising with criminals in the name of providing assistance.
CP Emeka, however, commended the PCRC members for their consistent support in ensuring peace and security in the state.
He also called on other relevant stakeholders to synergies with the police in the fight against crime and criminality in Rivers State.
“I want this synergy to continue to exist, especially at the local divisions of the Area Command, the state zone and national at large. Nigeria Police Force, Rivers State command will always partner with you in Its fight against crime and criminality.
“I also encourage other highly responsible and respected people in the society that have the interest of security to serve with the police, to join the police community relations committee, we cannot do it all alone is enormous work.
“Thanks for investing your time, treasure and your talent. All these resources are the sacrifice by most of you and we appreciate. But the only thing I keep saying is that even in heaven there were also black sheeps, just like even in police here we have black sheeps.
“There are some that joined because of the evil of identifying that they have connections with the Police, even when they know somebody is involved in evil, they want to lobby them out.So stop fraternising with criminals. If I begin to see any member of your committee fraternising with criminals I will distance myself from you”, CP Emeka stated.
Earlier, the state Chairman of PCRC, Mr. Voke Emore, described CP Emeka as a “self motivated, he didn’t wait for any governor, traditional rulers, PCRC, he took it up on himself to take actions that will better the communities in Rivers State and safety of members and properties of the people in the communities.”
He explained that “It is a special day because we are welcoming the CP of the command. We are also giving him a vote of confidence for activities done so far by the police.”
“We have seen him to be an action CP and we said we must host him today to tell him thank you for what you have done so far and that we appreciate the Inspector General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba and the Police Service Commission which deemed it fit to send an active, proactive, dynamic and gallant CP like himself.”
