Kano Complies with Court Order, Reinstates Magaji Anti-graft Boss

Ahmad Sorondinki, in Kano.

Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has reinstated Muhyi Magaji Rimin Gado as Chairman of the Public Complaints and Anti-corruption Commission (PCACC), to complete his five-year tenure.

In a press statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Sanusi Bature, explained that the reinstatement of Magaji was with immediate effect in compliance with court verdict.

“Barr Muhyi was suspended from office by the previous administration in ‘questionable circumstances’ which resulted to series of litigation to situate the sack,” he said.

Ganduje has removed Magaji after Kano State House of Assembly recommended his immediate sack from his position as chairman of the commission. The letter of dismissal, dated January 24, 2023, was signed by then Secretary to the Kano State Government, Alhaji Usman Alhaji.

“The dismissal is in accordance with the provisions of section 6 of the Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Law 2008 as amended. Accordingly, you are hereby formally issued with a dismissal letter.”

But Magaji dragged the state government, the state House of Assembly and the Attorney General of the State to the National Industrial court challenging his removal from office.

The, however, court ruled that Kano State House of Assembly, has no right, under the law, to recommend the removal of Muhuyi from office, without fair hearing.

The court further held that the claimant was wrongfully dismissed and thereby ordered his reinstatement with immediate effect.
