Arewa Professionals Applaud Wale Edun’s Appointment as Presidential Adviser on Monetary Policies

The Arewa Professionals in the United Kingdom (AP-UK) has described the appointment of Wale Edun as Special Adviser on Monetary Policy by President Bola Tinubu as well deserved and a right step in the right direction.

This is contained in a statement on Friday signed by its President, Mr. Yunana Shibkau.

The group expressed joy over Edun’s appointment, describing it as the ‘right peg in the right hole. The president had announced Wale Edun as one of his eight Special Advisers and more importantly to the newly created office of monetary policies.

Shibkau said as a commissioner for Finance in Lagos when the President was the governor between 1999- 2007, Edun performed excellently well which singled him out of the pack.

He added that in 1999 when the population of Lagos State was 10 million, the revenue generated by the Lagos state stood at N1.2bn monthly, but Edun’s financial expertise revamped the dwindling economy and the internal revenue surged to N6.9bn monthly, significant increase of 469 percent.

With the recent reports of AP-UK on the inflation rate rising to 22.41 percent, and Nigeria recording the fifth consecutive rise in the inflation rate this year, the task ahead for the new Adviser is enormous but surmountable given his trajectories.

The group commended the president for appointing individuals with proven track records as his advisers, saying he had demonstrated his passion and commitment toward taking Nigeria to greater heights.

“As a man with solid background in international finance, corporate finance, public finance cum wide experience, in world bank and financial packages for several countries in Latin America and the Caribbean, including the Dominican Republic and Trinidad as well as Indonesia and India and above all his impeccable record would immensely benefited the government and the country at large.

In another development, the Group commended the appointment of Major General Christopher Gwabiu Musa as Chief of Defence Staff and Mallam Nuhu Ribadu as National Security Adviser, and expressed confidence that these men would succeed given their impeccable track records and experience in security and intelligence operations.
