Gombe Establishes Drugs and Medical Consumables Management Agency

Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya has assented to the Gombe State Drugs and Medical Consumables Management Agency and Public Wholesale Company Law, 2023.
The law, which was passed by the State House of Assembly on the 18th of May, 2023, seeks to provide for the establishment of the Gombe State Drugs and Medical Consumables Management Agency which will serve as an assured source of qualitative, affordable and accessible drugs and other medical consumables in the State.
This was contained in a press release made available to journalists yesterday.
The purpose, according to the release, is to create a patient-centred supply chain standard that will achieve significant levels of efficiency and effectiveness in the delivery of healthcare products to the citizenry in line with Universal Health Coverage.
Meanwhile, Governor Yahaya has approved the extension of tenure of the management of the Gombe State University of Science and Technology, Kumo for six months with effect from 1st July, 2023.
The Secretary to the State Government(SSG), Professor Ibrahim Abubakar Njodi, who conveyed the governor’s approval, said the decision followed the expiration of their tenure at the end of this June, and the need to facilitate smooth take-over of the institution by the Lincoln University College Malaysia.
Gombe State Government has signed a Public Private Partnership (PPP) agreement with the Lincoln University College of Malaysia to prop up academic activities at the Gombe State University of Science and Technology Kumo and activate the institution to a centre of academic excellence.
The MoU is the treaty that will bring to life the established and hitherto abandoned University, with a view to making it a world class institution that would favourably compete in the comity of international universities.
