Group Unveils Tracker to Monitor Implementation of Campaign Promises in Kano

A coalition of non-governmental organisations in Kano State under the umbrella of ‘Haske Kano’ has unveiled a website called ‘Kano tracker’, which is aimed at monitoring the performance and implementation of campaign promises by the state Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, during the election campaign.

At the unveiling ceremony of the tracker in Kano yesterday, the group leader, Isa Tijjani, said: The tracker would ensure the effective distribution of democratic dividends to the people, especially the grassroots.

According to him, the Kano tracker website is a citizen-oriented initiative that would track and monitor the implementation of the 14 commitments of the present administration led by Governor Yusuf as contained in his blueprint during the election campaign.

He said: “Through the website, citizens will be able to hold the government accountable as it monitors daily activities of the government through budget allocations, Executive Council meetings, awarding of contracts, policies and other activities of the government.”

The team leader explained that the tracker would also monitor and assess health care system, agriculture, infrastructure, water, climate change, quality of education, industrialisation, revenue generation, security, human capacity development among others by the state government.

Tijjani revealed that the website with the address www.Kanotracker.org has features for an easily accessible newsletter via subscription, photo gallery, citizens’ engagement platform and feedback.

In his remark, the Principal Private Secretary to the Governor, Dr. Faruk Kurawa, explained that the website is a good initiative, which the state government has bought into, as it will enable the public to know what is happening As well as measure performances of the administration, and the commitment/blueprint presented to the populace during election campaigns.

“The initiative, through the website, will enable our administration to be commended when the right thing is done and also be questioned by the public when we do the wrong thing. My coming here is an indication that we are in support of the initiative,” he said.
