Despite the 24-hour curfew imposed on Mangu Local Government Area (LGA) of Plateau State, no fewer than seven persons have been killed after gunmen attacked Kerang community of the local government.

Government had last week imposed a curfew on the LGA to curb incessant attacks given the trend  in the past months.

A resident of Kerang community, Mr. Kabir said, among the persons killed was a couple, adding that the victims have been given a mass burial  yesterday morning.

Kabir said: “I can confirm to you that five people, including a man and his wife, were killed by the terrorists between 5pm and 8pm on Monday, June 26, 2023 at Kerang Community of Kerang District on Mangu Local Government.

“We had thought that with the imposition of curfew on the LGA security agents would be able to stop attacks on innocent residents. But unfortunately, the gunmen came to the community by 5:00 pm, firing gunshots which led to the killing of the victims.”

He said that the assailants immediately escaped into the surrounding hills after the attack, adding that “It was this morning that the corpses of the victims were discovered by residents who had been thrown into mourning”

“The victims have been given mass burial this morning.”
