Ono Ovedje Mccaulay, Co-CEO of Hype Media is a name that has recurred severally in the entertainment circle and music career of a lot of A-list Nigerian artistes. With a weighty resume and track records of achievements, he is presently pushing a new agenda, Magic Entertainment with the need to revamp the magic industry as a form of entertainment. The course of his career path has seen him work with 2Baba, Timi Dakolo, Terry G, Terry the Rapma, VectorthaViper, Erigga, Sexy Steel, Solidstar, Davido, Bred, VitoRali working as projects manager and talent manager respectively.

Shedding more light on this course he expressed that, “Magic has always been a part of our culture here in Africa before and Nigeria isn’t left behind. How can one put a definition to something beyond explanation; seeing something being done in one’s very eyes yet it can’t be processed. Magic and modernity are rarely regarded as belonging together.

“Evolutionism regarded magic as quintessentially unmodern although psychologists and romantic artists have sometimes declared magic to be a human universal. Hence, I would say Magic is an act though witnessed and seen but unexplainable. The act itself took the front seat of major elite circles as a means to thrill, hold guests, spectators spellbound, pulling outward mystified excitements but with the ultimate goal of entertainment.”

Ono is currently managing Babs Cardini, one of Africa’s merged young talented magicians. Through the mentiorship and direction of Ono Mccaulay, the magician as risen to a place of reckon and applause for his outstanding performances, unbelievable acts and a magical mystery of a unique kind. Sharing the acceptability level of magic extraordinaire, Babs Cardini, Ono Mccaulay disclosed that his acceptability has been popular among the elite, names that you only get to read about in the papers.

He further noted, “I am already on the journey to revamping an industry, culture long left in the shadows thanks to superstition and funny religious beliefs into a modern yet digitalized dispensation. I’m trying to make the act of magic entertainment as an added option to existing entertainment circuit. Already have the likes of Babs Cardini who is arguably the face of the craft in Africa as well as Prescious the Magician, KhellMagic, Blackeke who are also doing well. Though we have music, comedy events and concerts I would love to set up on the long term an atmosphere where people would be excited, looking forward to attending series of magic oriented events and concerts as well.

“The act of magic performance is fun filled when seen up-close. Sad to say that when foreigners engage in it, they get cheered whilst when a black oriented individual does same the person is rebuked, labelled with all sorts of names. I’m changing the dynamic and story a page at a time for I have been able to successfully inject the craft into major top-notch events both public as well as private getting off with not just acceptance but good reviews too.”
