Niger Governor Lifts Morale of Pilgrims in Holy Land

The Niger State Governor, Mr. Mohammed Umar Bago, has lifted the morales of the state pilgrims in Mecca with monetary donation.

The exact amount given to the pilgrims was not disclosed in a statement by the Chief Information of the State Pilgrims Welfare Board, Mr. Hassan Danladi, but THISDAY gathered that each of them got 100 Riyals equivalent to N10,000.

The donation was said to be from the personal purse of the governor to 3,710 pilgrims from the state performed this year’s Hajj.

The statement quoted the Executive Secretary of the Board, Mr. Muhammad Awwal Aliyu, as saying that the beneficiaries of the governor’s donation appreciated the gesture and also prayed for the success of the administration.

 According to the statement the money was given to the pilgrims by the governor “to ease their hardship while in the holy land” before saying that the governor promised to put measures in place to improve the conditions of pilgrims from next year.

The governor, according to the statement, promised to rehabilitate the Hajj transit camp “to make it more habitable and conducive for pilgrims” and also pledged that the Minna International Airport would be modernised.
