Hypo Moves to End Open Defecation, Commissions Toilet Units

As part of it to efforts at promoting hygiene and cleanliness in schools, sanitation brand, Hypo Homecare Products Ltd has taken its ‘Toilet Rescue Volunteer Programme’ up a notch, commissioning additional 24 toilet units in Lagos school.

The programme executed in partnership with National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), is aimed at addressing the practice of open defecation in Nigeria and educating the public on its environmental impact.

Speaking at the commissioning of the toilet presented to Mainland Senior High School, Yaba, Hypo Assistant Brand manager, Emmanuel Inyang reiterated that the toilet rescue initiative was the organisation’s long drive to conquer the challenge of open defecation and the use of unsafe toilets in Nigeria and their accompanying fatalities. 

He said, “ Hypo reckons that open defecation, if not addressed especially in schools can lead to various health challenges that can negatively impact children’s learning ability and pose avoidable problems to the environment, thus, effort will be diverted from education to struggles for survival.

“To support federal government’s efforts in eradicating open defecation and effects, we have come up with this initiative while employing corp members for the implementation.”

Present at the commissioning, Tutor -General and Permanent Secretary, Lagos Education District 4, Mr. Olusegun Osinaike commended the company for being socially sensitive and responsible to the needs of the environment.

Also commenting, Principal of the beneficiary school, Adeniji A. Oduntan expressed appreciation to the donor, urging students to make good use of the facilities.   

“We are glad we are selected for this gesture. These built to taste 24 units toilets will cater to over 2,000 students daily”, he said.
