VitalEdge Global Academy, BackCountry Jazz Announce Sophomore Scholarship Program

A renowned music academy specialising in providing music education in Lagos, VitalEdge Global Academy, has officially announced the commencement of its summer scholarship program for a select group of eight high-performing students to the United States.

According to the founder of VitalEdge Global Academy, Jerry Omole, the scholarship programme is a strategic partnership with BackCountry Jazz, a famed body with remarkable contributions towards the advancement of jazz and jazz artistes through education and performance, to give exposure to the students and help them think of music as a lifelong profession.

“The program is a grounded three weeks of intensive training,” Omole explained.

“And what we saw over there the last time was quite impressive. We had all sorts of different classes. We had a class for learning rhythm only. It doesn’t matter what instrument you play; you will have to learn rhythm, one of the three elements that also includes harmony and melody. Another class is just for listening to different jazz from different eras.”

Omole hopes that the experiences of the last trip will be replicated, with one of the highlights being a trip to Berklee College of Music that helped shape the artistry of artistes like Tiwa Savage, Quincy Jones, and John Mayer.
