NDIC Trains Students on Financial Literacy in Sokoto

The Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC) says it is committed to taking financial literacy to the young generation in the country.
In a training organized by the corporation for secondary school students in Sokoto State on financial literacy, the corporation disclosed that the training was meant to make the students embrace a saving attitude.
The 2023 training, which was attended by hundreds of students, drawn from some secondary schools in the state, was in commemoration of the 2023 Financial Literacy Day, with its theme, “Plan Your Money, Plant Your Future.”
Addressing the students at Hapsatu Government Girls Secondary School, Sokoto on Wednesday, the Controller of NDIC in the state, Bello Usman Kaoje, said the programme which was in partnership with the Sokoto State ministry of education was part of the organisation’s Corporate Social Responsibility.
Kaoje said the annual financial literacy programme was designed in the spirit of “catch them young and make the learners financially literate”, because the habit of saving was education itself as it teaches self-denial and which young ones must embrace and take seriously.
He urged the students to inculcate the culture of savings to be financially disciplined.
According to him, the intention of NDIC was to use the financial literacy training programme to ensure that students of secondary schools in the country get information on how to generate, save and spend their monies.
“The essence of this is to get young people informed on how best to take decisions on financial management he stated.
“It’s about information on how to generate, save and spend our monies. Saving money means planting our future and that starts with planning well,” he said.
He noted that the programme was designed for learners, expressed happiness that teachers who brought their students to the event also benefited from the programme.
Earlier, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education , Sokoto state, Dr Bala Junaidu commended the NDIC for its consistency in organizing the training for secondary school students in the state, saying it would go a long way in shaping students’ future positively.
He implored the students to listen attentively to enable them benefits from the training.
On her part, the principal of Hafsatu Government Girls Secondary School Hajia Hadiza Bature thanked NDIC for choosing her school as a venue of the training, stressing the students would immensely benefit from the training.
The highlight of the event was the presentation of papers and entertainment of questions by the students centred on financial management.
