A ward head in Paiko town in the Paikoro Local Government Area of Niger State has been arrested by the police for allegedly receiving and selling stolen motorcycles.

Twenty-three stolen motorcycles were reportedly found in possession of the ward head, and the registration number plates were removed from them, which were stolen and sold.

The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Wasiu Abiodun, in a statement made available to journalists in Minna last Tuesday said the Ward’s head has already confessed to committing the crime while two of his accomplices have been arrested.

Abiodun named the Ward head as a 45-year-old Hussaini Mohammed, and the accomplices, Isah Umar, 20, a resident in Paiko town, and a 25-year-old Hussaini Ibrahim of Bosso area, near Minna.

According to the police spokesman, “During interrogation, the two suspects confessed to the crime and claimed that they stole four motorcycles along with one Nafiu presently at large, and gave it to one Junaidu also at large, who sold them to Ward’s head.

“They further confessed that they did sell the motorcycles at the rate of N200,000 and N150,000 to Ward’s head,” adding that the receiver (Ward’s head) was arrested last Saturday during which 26 motorcycle number plates and one fuel tank were got from him.

He said investigation is ongoing in the case after which the suspects will be charged to court.

In a related development, Wasiu Abodun disclosed that five suspected armed robbers have been arrested in connection with recent robberies in some parts of Minna, the state capital.

He said the suspects were believed to be behind the recent robberies around the Top medical area of Tunga, Minna, where two victims were injured and some money with other valuables items were carted away.

Abiodun disclosed that not less than 10 victims of the robberies have identified the suspects, pointing out that an investigation into the matter is also ongoing.
