10 Persons Die in Auto Crash in Kwara

No fewer than 10 people have lost their lives in a fatal multiple auto crash that occurred along Bode Saadu-Jebba highway in Moro Local Government of Kwara State.

The incident according to THISDAY checks happened yesterday evening with 17 people on board.

It was gathered that seven males, one female and two female children died in the incident, which occurred at Ilupupa Village of Moro Local Government Area of the state.

The Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in the state, Frederick Ade Ogidan who confirmed the incident, stated that three vehicles were involved in the fatal crash in which three others sustained various degrees of injuries.

He disclosed that about N60,750 in cash was recovered at the scene of the crash, blaming the accident on wrongful overtaking and overspeeding.

The vehicles involved in the crash were a Green coloured private Volkswagen Sharan car registered AKD 733FX, a private gold-coloured car registered GWA 22DD, driven by one Oladokun Waheed and a white coloured commercial vehicle registered DTS 139XA owned by Darmarna Petroleum Ltd.

Ogidan added that the dead bodies were deposited at the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital mortuary, Ilorin, while the injured were taken to Shalom Hospital, Bode Saadu.

The police from Jebba Divisional Police Station took custody of the vehicles involved in the auto crash.

The sector commander attributed the cause of the auto crash to wrongful overtaking and speed violations.

While advising motorists to be cautious of the way they speed and overtake, he said the safety corps will commence another round of enforcement on speed violations and overloading from Monday next week.

“The safety corps cannot tolerate a situation where 10 lives are lost in a single auto crash,” he added.
