Police Arrest Six Boys for Raping Teenager in Anambra

Six boys aged between 16 and 27 have been arrested for gang raping a 19-year old girl in Anam, a community of Anambra West Local Government Area.

The boys, who had raped the girl one after the other, also recorded the act, which has also been circulating on social media.

The girl explained her ordeal before the Anambra State Commissioner for Women and Social Welfare, Mrs Ify Obinabo.

She revealed that she was coming back from her maternal uncle’s house, when the boys attacked her.

She noted that some passers-by, who heard her cry, rescued. However, according to her, but before she got home, another set of boys accosted her and made her to forcefully surrender her underwear to them.

The media assistant to the commissioner, Chidinma Ikeanyionwu said the commissioner immediately went after the boys, and that they had been arrested and handed over to the police.

Ikeanyionwu said: “Following the viral video on the internet of the 19 year old girl who was gang-raped by six boys in Anam, Anambra West Local Government Area, the commissioner intervened by arresting the boys and rescuing the victim.

“The suspects have been handed over to the police, and the case transferred to state criminal investigation department of police in Awka, from where they would be charged to court.”

The suspects names were given as follows; Afam Ezenwa, Chijioke Ifeanyi, Collins Obadom, Abuchi Okechukwu , Chima Obiekezie and Sunday Okafor.

Ikeanyionwu quoted Obinabo as lamenting about the high rate of crimes amongst delinquents and called on parents and guardians to stop sparing the rod thereby spoiling their children.

Parents of the victim said their daughter was the third victim of the rape suspects, saying they were known for raping girls and collecting their pants, which usually resulted in death of their victims after a period of time.

They urged the state government “not to take the case lightly as their daughter’s life was at risk, especially now that they are yet to retrieve her underwear.”
