Sporting Lagos, Remo Stars to Draw Curtain on Naija Super 8 Today
Newly promoted Sporting Lagos FC and Remo Stars will battle for the ultimate prize of the Naija Super8 Tournament in Lagos today to determine the winners of the maiden edition at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena on Onikan Water front, Lagos.
To reach the final, Remo defeated Lobi Stars 2-1 in the semi final while Sporting Lagos also stopped Akwa United by the same scoreline.
The Naija Super 8 final will kick off at 5pm with the winner of the maiden edition smiling away with trophy and N25million in cash. The runner up team is to get consolation N9million. In the run up to the final, teams were paid N3million for every victory recorded by organisers of the tournament, FlyKite Productions in partnership with MultiChoice Nigeria, MTN, Hero Lager, DSTv, GOtv, SuperSport, Moniepoint, Pepsi and Custodian Assurance.
Meanwhile, 24 hours after they were fined N200, 000 along with Katsina United in their clash for a slot in the ongoing Naija Super 8 football competition, Sporting Lagos have been fined by the same amount by the organisers, Flykite Productions.
The fine of another N200, 000 was announced in a statement issued late Friday shortly after Sporting Lagos had defeated Akwa United 2-1 at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Lagos to book a final spot against Remo Stars today.
The infraction, according to the organisers, was the same as in their clash on Thursday with Katsina United, when both sets of players did not throw their jersey shirts to the crowd, as agreed with the organisers before the tournament.
Those who gave out jerseys did not do so randomly, but chose members of the crowd, who were suspiciously their friends, to give the jerseys to. An attempt by one of the organisers to correct Sporting Lagos forward, Junior Lokosa, was rebuffed by the player.
