Kwara Residents Slam Tinubu over Fuel Price Increase

Residents of Kwara State have berated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu over the increase in the pump prices of petrol, from N537 to N617 per litre.

Already, petrol stations in the state have been closed down for fear of being attacked in view of the new development in the petroleum sector.

The immediate reason could not be ascertained, but it is not unconnected to the recent projections by oil marketers that fuel prices will hit N700 per litre soon.

A visit to NNPC petrol stations in Ilorin, Kwara State, by THISDAY confirmed that the fuel price has now been adjusted from N539 to N617 per litre.

A customer who confirmed this development to THISDAY also said: “It is true; I just bought it at N617 per litre.”

However, some residents of Ilorin and other parts of the state have kicked against the increase in fuel prices.

A trader at the Ago market, Alhaja Seninat Abdullahi, queried President Tinubu that: “Is this the renewed hope promised Nigerians during his electioneering campaigns?

“Despite the economic situation in Nigeria today, this federal government led by President Tinubu still continue to add pain on us.

“It is worrisome that the Nigeria’s inflation has increased to 22.7 per cent. Nigerians cannot eat three meals a day and this federal government still increased fuel prices.”

Also, a transporter, Mr. Yekinni Ojo, said: “We are now in serious problem in Nigeria today. This is even worse than the former President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration.

“The present government of President Tinubu has disappointed us and the renewed hope of his campaign slogan has turned into hopeless agenda.”

A teacher, Mrs. Felicia Oyedokun, said: “The present economic hardship in the country is uncalled for.

“Where can we go to now? This is the government that promised renewed hope, and see what is happening now.”

Mrs. Ojo, therefore, prayed to God to bail “the people of the country out from this kind of hopeless government ruling the country.”
