Sacked MD of Abuja Market Management Locks Out Successor

Crisis is brewing at the Abuja Market Management Limited (AMML), one of the revenue-generating agencies of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) after the Managing Director(MD), Alhaji Abubakar Usman Faruk locked out the acting MD Abbas Yakubu with the backing of the Police.
Although the immediate past FCT Minister, Malam Muhammad Bello, suspended Faruk, the latter obtained a subtle restraining court order and is allegedly scheming to retain his appointment with the help of some powerful forces.
He premised his ground on the fact that his appointment letter was not tenured and as such he could not be removed unceremoniously from office.
But in a statement signed yesterday by Yakubu, AMML insisted that Faruk had been relieved of his duties as the company’s MD and CEO following a resolution of the company’s shareholders at an Extra-ordinary General Meeting held on July 17.
He, however, added that Faruk will remain a director of the company.
Trouble, however, ensued yesterday when Faruk, armed with some policemen, stormed AMML’s office, at Gudu District of Abuja and locked the MD’s office, insisting that nobody would gain access into and take possession of the office.
In the wake of the crisis that followed some of the staff of the AMML expressed concern about their fate while complaining that they were harassed by some officers that accompanied the erstwhile MD.
AMML’s Public Relations Officer, Innocent Amechina, said Faruk blatantly disregarded the resolution of the stakeholders, which ought to take effect from yesterday by storming the facilities with four policemen that locked his office and also changed the lock.
“As I speak to you now we are at the Durumi Police station, with both the sacked MD and acting MD Abbas Yakubu,”, Amechina.
