The Speaker, Osun State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Adewale Egbedun, and his Oyo State counterpart, Rt. Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin, yesterday jointly called on colleagues in the region to unite to develop the South-west geo-political zone in Nigeria.

The duo made the call yesterday when the Oyo Speaker made a familiarity visit to his colleague in Osogbo, Osun State capital.

Osun Speaker, who is also a member of the Caretaker Committee of the Conference of Speakers, said that unity is needed in the geo-political zone to bring about rapid development.

He noted that unity of purpose and cohesion are very key in helping the zone to develop faster and fulfill the aspirations of the people.

According to Egbedun, “Osun and Oyo State Houses of Assembly will work together in the spirit of people’s development. We will work together to enhance a robust legislative agenda that will bring about developmental plans for the people.”

He also appreciated his colleague for the visit and urged him to sustain his agenda to unite the legislative institution in the zone.

Also Speaking, Oyo Speaker, Rt. Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin, congratulated Egbedun on his emergence as the Speaker of the Osun 8th Assembly.

He stressed that the Osun Speaker had demonstrated capacity in just a few weeks since he assumed office.

He noted that his visit was to open a communication channel that would foster an exchange of ideas, innovations and unity which would enhance significant development in the region.

He said: “I have never been here for the past five years that I have been in the Oyo State House of Assembly as member and Speaker. Our culture and language unite us more than the state separates us.

“Oyo and Osun share an existing relationship because we used to be one entity until when Osun was created. I appreciate my brother, Rt. Hon. Adewale Egbedun and I believe our relationship will foster a relationship between the States Assembly, which will further strengthen the relationship among our people. This is a sign of good things to come for our people.”

Ogundoyin also commended the governor of Osun State for the giant strides he has achieved in a few months in office while urging the people of the state to continue to support the government for more developmental programmes.

He concluded by applauding his colleagues in the Osun Assembly for the passage of the Osun Anthem, Crest and Flag Law, 2023, which reversed the descriptive name “State of Osun” back to “Osun State.”

He later presented the Osun Speaker with a plaque, a hand fan and a talking drum.
