The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Rivers State Council, has raised the alarm over the kidnap of its member and the Director of News, Rivers State Broadcasting Corporation, Mrs Anthony Nwokocha.

In a statement by the Chairman of Rivers Council Stanley Job Stanley and Secretary, Ike Wigodo, NUJ called on security agencies to ensure her immediate rescue.

Findings had revealed that gunmen suspected to be kidnappers allegedly whisked Nwokocha away Friday night.

Further findings showed that she was abducted at a gunpoint at about 8:00 p.m. after close of work along Ogonigba/Elelenwo Bridge leading to the old Slaughter Market in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of the state.

In its statement yesterday, Rivers NUJ described the abduction as inhuman, wicked and insensitive especially against a journalist working for the good of the society.

The statement, therefore, urged the security agencies in the state “to ensure the unconditional rescue of Nwokocha to enable her reunite with her family and continue her service to the society.”

The union also charged the security agencies to ensure the arrest of Nwokocha’s abductors and bring them to book to serve as a deterrent to other criminals in the state.

It commended the Commissioner of Police, Mr Emeka Nwonyi, for improving on security in the State in the last three months and urged him not to relent on his efforts.
