As political activities in Imo State gather momentum towards November 11, 2023, governorship election, the Imo Progressives Movement (IPM), a multi-partisan movement with membership from the various political parties in the state, has unanimously adopted the state Governor, Hope Uzodimma, as its sole candidate.
The National Facilitator/Convener of the group, Hon. Eugene Dibiagwu, a member of the House of Representatives, who announced the adoption at its maiden press briefing in Owerri, said the measure, which is in line with the ‘State’s Charter of Equity’ fashioned by the elders in the state in respect of the governorship seat was in appreciation of the governor’s outstanding achievements in the past three and half years.
Dibiagwu, who represents the Ohaji/Egbema/Oguta/Oru West federal constituency on the House, said the reasons for the adoption of the governor for a second tenure included reduction of infant and maternity rates through sound health policies; revamping and equipping of the state-owned university with modern pedagogical and medical tools; massive roads revolution; sound and result-oriented agricultural policy; skill-up-Imo project which has resulted in the training of thousands of experts in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) as well as promotion of academic excellence in schools, sports, social welfare and fiscal discipline.
According to him, “All over the world, citizens who are committed to the socio-political advancement of society have always risen to the occasion and forged a common front in pursuit of the lofty agenda of building a society that works for all,” stressing that it was the vision behind the formation of the movement (IPM).
The lawmaker, while urging indigenes and lovers of the state to join the movement and participate in the election to ensure that good governance is consolidated in the state, said various structures of the movement in the polling units, communities, wards, local government areas, federal constituencies and senatorial districts were already taking shape ahead of the state-wide inauguration of the body.
He enjoined the citizens of the state to join hands with the organisation and participate in ensuring that good governance is consolidated in the state.
