A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Chukwuemeka Eze has condemned the recent attack on the Yola residence of the former Vice President and Presidential Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, by suspected terrorists.

This as the APC chief has called on the President Bola Tinubu led-federal government to order for an urgent investigation to unravel and punish the sponsors and perpetrators of the act accordingly.

In a statement made available yesterday, to THISDAY in Port Harcourt, the APC  he said: “the cowardly and dastardly attack signals a palpable gloom of apprehension that may have been schemed by some undemocratic forces and class, to capture the entire civil society in a bid to usurp democracy and stifle the desire of majority in the pursuit of private vendetta”.

The party Chief recalled that one Jibrilla Mohammed was arrested at the residence of the former Vice President in Yola, and while being interrogated by security agencies confessed to being a member of the dreaded Boko Haram sect.

He said: “All these plots aimed at stifling Atiku’s life and crippling his business empire should be condemned by all and sundry”.

Eze expressed concern over the level of insecurity that has continued to permeate the country, describing the situation as heart-wrenching and grossly discomforting not minding billions of Naira alleged to have been spent over the security challenges facing this nation

“Insecurity in Nigeria has successfully climaxed to a level where farmers can no longer go to their farms and people can no longer travel safely without the care the fear of attacks thereby rubbishing the Federal Government declaration of emergency on food security as a mere talk

The country seems to be retrogressing to the pre-modern age where life was brutish, nasty and short,” Eze noted.

He alerted security agencies to up their game and ensure nothing happens to either Atiku,, Obi or Tinubu especially now that Nigerians are looking forward to a rerun election.

“Security must be beefed-up around Atiku as the ‘Waziri Adamawa’ is not an ordinary fellow but a political staunch and notable heavyweight who still has so much to offer the country.”

Assuring the former vice president of God’s continued divine protection, the party Chief called for “a thorough investigation into the matter to unravel those faceless cowards behind the horrendous plot and bring them to justice to deter others who may be attracted by hate to engage in similar crimes”.
