DSS Arrests Man for Impersonating Niger’s Tribunal Secretary

Operatives of the Department of State Service (DSS), has arrested one Idris Baba Hassan of Kusfa area of Suleja in Niger State, for impersonating the secretary of the National and State House of Assembly Election Petition Tribunal.


Following his arrest, he was yesterday charged before a Minna Chief Magistrate Court on one count charge of impersonation contrary to section 132 of penal code law of Niger State.


According to the prosecution, who was also the Principal Staff Officer Legal Service of the DSS, the accused, through the use of telephone, sent text messages to litigants demanding gratification on behalf of members of the tribunal.


The prosecution added that a discreet investigation was carried out leading to his arrest between the last days of July and now.
When the charge was read to him by Chief Magistrate, Adamu Abubakar, the accused pleaded guilty to the charge and was immediately convicted and sentenced to two years imprisonment.
Abubakar, however, gave him an option of N100,000 fine.
